Creating Equity: One of the Critical Missions of Cricket Fixes
I’ll get straight to the point. Last week was hard for many of us. Isn’t that the understatement of the century? It was downright brutal and continues to be. I found myself crying on the couch for days, distraught and feeling hopeless about humanity and what’s unfolding here in the U.S. with the inauguration of “he who shall not be named.” I’m in shock and awe, witnessing so many people support what’s unfolding. I found myself in a legit depression, not even wanting to play pickleball. I’m no stranger to clinical depression, so I knew my state of mind was serious when I didn’t want to do the one thing that I crave, and lifts me up every time I play.
So I got to work real quick to recalibrate and regain my strength by:
Making sleep my #1 priority 🛌
Being super regimented about microdosing with psilocybin 🍄
Forcing myself to play pickleball, take a shower, clean my home, and do laundry 🧺
Eliminating inflammatory foods that I know generate physical pain - sugar & gluten (I didn’t need another contributor to my depression), and thank god I’m alcohol-free. 🆓
Sharing my state with my close friends for support. 📞
You may be wondering why “staying off social media” wasn’t on there. Because I refuse to look away. Yes, I did limit how much so I wouldn’t be taken further down in the depths because I do understand how the brain works, but there’s no room for burying heads in the sand - instead, I’m finding ways to stay energized and balance it all.
Throughout all of this, ironically, the Bible passage, “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do,” keeps playing in my head. I suppose this was Spirit’s way of helping me remain compassionate and focused on my mission of growing Cricket Fixes - currently, where my power of influence can bloom the best. There’s a lot of healing that needs to be done. When I think of the fear-based rationale that drives people’s decisions and/or the incredible and incomprehensible privilege some of us have that others don’t - wow does it weigh heavy on me.
It feels downright overwhelming.
So I have to go back to “What can I do about this?”
One of the beautiful gifts of working with both MEA Wisdom and Beckley Retreats is that I got to help shape and support their financial aid components. I was blessed to work with applicants and witness the transformations of people who would not have been otherwise able to attend due to financial constraints.
When a business truly understands the power of a diverse group of humans coming together AND the current economic disparity and the duty to repair that by those with privilege - magic can unfold. With that, as Cricket Fixes was being dreamed up, I knew my revenue model had to ensure everyone who wants to be a part of the Cricket Fixes Membership Community has access to it. I had to do my part to create equity in the self-development, personal growth, and healing space.
What does it mean to create equity in the world?
This Google response sums it up best: “Creating equity in the world means actively working to ensure everyone has a fair and just opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances, by addressing systemic inequalities and providing resources or support tailored to individual needs, rather than simply treating everyone the same (which would be equality) - essentially, it means leveling the playing field for all people by recognizing that not everyone starts at the same place.”
While I have a ways to go in building out this platform that addresses “resources or support tailored to individual needs” (there is a growth plan for this!), I can help get those with financial need access to some pretty cool tools, techniques, courses, and retreats that they can afford.
Another component of creating equity in the world is to donate 10% of my profits to The ACLU, Planned Parenthood, MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies), and Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
These will always be a part of the Cricket Fixes platform.
If you or someone you know is in search of self-development resource support and wants to work with me each month live, please head to our Pricing page to see all membership options or click the button below to complete the financial aid form. No one will be denied a discount, and in some cases, a full grant is available.
P.S. If you’re feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, your dollars hold power. I’ve started using the Goods Unite Us app to educate myself on who should and shouldn’t get my money and walking away from giants like Amazon - Prime canceled, app deleted. I know it’s not always possible to make these hard choices to do this, but I’m doing the best I can to align with my core values and the mission of Cricket Fixes.
